Natural Barefoot Hoof Trimming
The Horse’s Diet is a Big Part...
As a trimmer, I can only trim the outside of the hoof. As the horse’s owner it is your responsibility to provide the best diet possible for your horse and the health of the hoof.
...As well as their environment
Soft and cushy pastures are not ideal for developing good hoof health. If they have some hard terrain to walk on, that helps develop the hoof to be stronger, and rougher terrain helps wear the hoof naturally. Pea gravel is an ideal footing for paddocks, around water tubs and high traffic areas such as gates.
Why Barefoot?
The hoof has natural expansion, contraction and flexion capabilities. When shoes are applied, that takes away not only those natural movements, but also decreases circulation in the hoof. The shoes create more of a concussion when the horse moves therefore being harder not only on the hoof but the whole horse.
Protection with hoof boots.
There are many different types of hoof boots on the market today. As an authorized EasyCare Inc dealer, I can help you find the right boot for your needs. Some boots are easier to put on, some a litte more difficult but are designed for higher mileage riding. Therapy boots are also available if your horse needs protection but not for riding.
